Shane's Hall of Fame

About Us

Low-Side Racing is just a couple of guys (Shane and Dave) who enjoy riding sportbikes.

We got our start with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation class in 2003. In 2004, we signed up for the Kevin Schwantz Suzuki School at Road Atlanta to improve our riding skills, and that's when we were bitten by the bug. In 2005, we did numerous track days with STT and NESBA at Road Atlanta and Barber; I've also been to CMP and Jennings.

In 2006 we got serious and attended the Cornerspeed Level 1 and Level 2 classes at VIR, and I attended the Ed Bargy Race School at Barber. We also earned a bump to the Advanced group with NESBA and started racing.

Why "Low-Side Racing"? The picture to the right tells the story. If it wasn't for Shane's mis-fortune, we'd probably still be puttering around up in the mountains.

Racing...? Oh, hell yes! Fun doesn't even begin to describe it. Track days are a blast, and we'll keep doing them, but racing is an entirely different beast. My riding has progressed more in one weekend of racing than it normally does with a month of track days. There's just something about gridding for the start up that makes me go faster...

Dave's bikes

Kawasaki 636 2005 Kawasaki ZX6R 636 - Dedicated track bike. You'd be crazy to ride a bike like this on the street, it's too hard to keep sane speeds.
Sprint ST 2003 Triumph Sprint ST - All-around good bike for sporty rides and longer distances. This is my main steed for commuting to work and having fun in the mountains.

Shane's bikes

Daytona 600 2003 Triumph Daytona 600 - Shane's first sport bike. A low-side up in the mountains of north Georgia had her totalled by the insurance company and converted into a track bike (pictured here before her first track day). A wicked high-side in the grass at Road Atlanta's now-famous Turn 1 busted her up pretty good. R.I.P.
GSX-R750 2004 Suzuki GSX-R750 - Shane's second sport bike. A low-side up in the mountains of north Georgia had her converted to a track bike. A wicked low-side at Road Atlanta's really infamous Turn 1 had her bent and broken beyond repair. North Georgia and Turn 1...hmm...deja-vu. R.I.P.
GSX-R600 2005 Suzuki GSX-R600 - Shane's third sport bike - "Back in black". Dedicated track bike. Just as well that she never sees any miles on public roads. This is before her first track day at Barber.

The poor 600 had a close call at Road Atlanta in May 2006; Shane clipped the curbing in T7 with his foot peg, and low-sided. The far curbing broke the right clip-on, bent the foot peg, and cracked the engine cover. She'll be back out on the track, but this was pretty close to being "the big one".
Shane also has a Harley V-Rod (yes, it's true, stop laughing). Hard to believe he started out as a chrome-blingin', loud pipes cruiser guy, eh?
